Meet your board-certified OB GYNs

LORI JOY, MD, FACOG

Caring for the family’s center

“From the time I was 9 years old, I wanted to be a doctor and told my mom I wanted to deliver babies. Later, as I progressed in my medical training, I enjoyed the variety OB GYN provides, from surgery to primary care and, of course, delivering babies. Women are the center of the family, and I love caring for so many aspects of their lives.”

Bonding with patients for better care

“The bonds that I make with patients of all ages are important to me. I hope to give them honest, realistic information about their health based on current evidence. I’m a good listener, too, and patients seem to feel comfortable telling me about their real concerns. I relate to them as a woman and as a mother.”

In her free time, Dr. Joy likes downhill skiing, running and doing triathlons in summer.

NATHAN PAUL MELTZER, MD, FACOG

Bringing advanced care to my Northwest home

“I am honored to have been able to return to the area I was raised after spending many years away for training. I love the different challenges that every patient and every day brings, whether a high-risk delivery or complex surgery.”

Building partnerships based on communication

“I hope to give my patients exceptional care, well-researched advice and the opportunity to build a partnership for health. My patients seem to appreciate the extra time I spend with them when they need help making a difficult medical decision. We have fun getting to know each other while addressing sometimes serious medical health concerns, and open communication is the foundation of this relationship.”

In his free time, Dr. Meltzer takes great pride in serving as a medical educator and has consistently won awards for his teaching abilities. He also gives time to his primary hospital for administrative leadership and spends several days per month providing gynecologic care at a rural hospital.

Dr. Meltzer’s wife and two small daughters are glad to see him come home at the end of his long days and like to get him into his “play clothes” and outside!

DOUGLAS L. BROWN, DO, FACOOG

Enjoying the diversity of OB GYN care

“No other area in medicine today offers such a wide and stimulating range of practice, exercising not only clinical (office and general hospital) care but also learning and performing ever changing and improving surgical techniques – from routine healthcare, screening and prevention of disease to definitive treatment of disease; simple in-office procedures to long, complex surgeries. It allows me to participate in the normal arrival of precious new little babies (always enjoyable) and complicated deliveries alike, often in the same day.”

Providing continuous care for a lifetime

“This is a very personal field of medicine that requires continuity of care involving individuals and families, often over generations. OB GYN is not just about pregnancy but involves the woman as a whole. This includes helping her with decisions about family planning and dealing with gynecologic problems that can arise while striving to avoid disease and cultivate overall health in order to enjoy a long and healthy life.”

In his spare time, Dr. Brown enjoys exploring the great Northwest with his family in ever new and exciting ways.

Patient Testimonials

"Outstanding staff and medical professionals. Even though I was the last patient of the day, I did not feel rushed. The doctor and nurse seemed to work together to secure my records and explain the outcomes of some testing. I feel very confident that my health is in good hands."
