This page offers only brief descriptions of these surgical procedures. For a better understanding of these procedures, and to learn about other surgeries not listed here, it would be wise to speak to your provider. Laparoscopic Surgery: a minimally-invasive style of performing surgeries. Surgery is performed through small holes in the abdomen and surrounding areas, rather than using larger incisions, which require longer recovery time. Endometrial Ablation: A surgery to relieve abnormally long periods of bleeding during menstrual cycles. It involves the removal of the endometrial lining of the uterus. The procedure offers quick recovery times, and is often used as an alternative for those not wanting to undergo a hysterectomy. Tubal Ligation: A procedure where a woman's fallopian tubes are blocked or cut, to make the possibility of pregnancy extremely unlikely; this surgery results in female sterilization. Myomectomy: involves surgical removal of uterine fibroids; is similar to a Hysterectomy, but the uterus remains intact. Hysterectomy: surgical removal of the uterus, and sometimes the cervix as well; is a form of female sterilization. |
